Largie Laps' Recap From The Race That Never Happened
(I don't think the "Largie Laps" thing will stick... Shame.)
Every year, it is billed as "the biggest and most anticipated race of the NASCAR Cup Series season", but as even the most casual race fan already knows by now, the anticipation for the 2020 Daytona 500 was ultimately extended for 24 hours.
I was there when the green flag dropped for Sunday's race and even caught a glimpse of the exquisite Melania as she and her husband ushered in the drivers. But after a smaller rain delay, those cars raced just 20 of 200 scheduled laps before the clouds came back and really fucked things up.
NASCAR officials threw out a red flag, officially postponing the race until today.
The remainder of the Daytona 500 kicked off at 4 PM and you can catch the remainder of the live coverage on FOX, who had no problem bumping a monster block of Judge Judy to fit in this latest postponed edition of America's Race.
I was in Daytona since Friday night and have a longer video coming out tomorrow documenting all the shit I witnessed in the infield and beyond, but since Davey Daytona threw out a social media recap yesterday of his experience with Debbie, I thought Largie Laps would drop a similar compilation today starting with one of the least flattering but most NASCAR-'ish pictures I have ever taken...
Before some NASCAR-sponsored concert Saturday night, I repped the local minor league team (The Daytona Tortugas) and tried to ride the Zillion Beer wave by telling Dana to remind that broad from Buffalo to shave her BUSCHHHHHHHHHH...
#classy
I spoke to Clint Boyer a couple of hours before we made the official statement that Barstool will be sponsoring his car in a couple of races this season, starting in Talladega, AND both he and Dave will also co-host a podcast that will cover NASCAR-and-other-random-shit…
And I know we beat to death just how well-received Uber Driver Debbie was by the Daytona crowd, but for an ego-maniac, Dave surprisingly never outlined just how fucking popular he was at this event.
He had a packed line of people at a signing that had active NASCAR drivers immediately to his left and right with little-to-no autograph seekers, and then he hosted a photo lineup before our live show that fucking eclipsed the 2 local yokels I had to pay for them to pretend they knew who I was…
Not sure how we feel about full-frontal on this site, but that bearded gentleman on my right/your left had a rack that I think is worth a second look…
Bumped into a fellow Podfather…
Ran into Ike Taylor in an infield bar…
Shared Grand Marshall duties for Saturdays XFinity Series race with "The King", Richard Petty…
And gladly spent an inordinate amount of time with the lovely and vivacious host of NASCAR Trackside Live, Amy Long, who graciously co-hosted Barstool's live show from the Midway along with Dave, Deb, Hailie Deegan and myself…
Bigger video dropping tomorrow with all the food, booze, and filth that I experienced beyond the confines of Pit Row… So until then, enjoy the race I never saw, and take a report.
