AT THE BUZZER - 25 Years Ago TODAY A Masterpiece Was Released
My goodness my heart is racing. Started this blog at 11:45, have to get it in by the stroke of midnight. 25 years ago today, an all time classic was released. Feel old yet? Good, because you are. Unbelievable how the Sandman has done it. Billy Madison is one of the greatest films in cinematic history. Unbelievably quotable from beginning to end. And then he followed it up with Happy Gilmore! That's a 1/2 punch that not many actors will achieve. And I'm 0% joking. Sure some actors might put on performances that theatre nerds marvel at, but until they are played on cable television every Sunday for 20 years, they have nothing on the Happy Gilmore/Billy Madison combo. Joining him in that plethora is Will Ferrell with Old School and Anchorman and Owen Wilson with Zoolander and Wedding Crashers. And hey let's throw Vince Vaughn in there for Old School/Dodgeball. Man, they don't make movies like they used to, eh?
But back to the film at hand, Billy Madison. Let's just rattle off some of the quotes we still use 25 years later "T-t-t-TODAY, JUNIOR!", "You get your ass out there, and you find that fuckiing dog!", "O'DOYLE RULES!”, "Chlorophyll? More like Borophyll!”, "You ain’t cool unless you pee your pants.", and of course "Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
And a hell of a cameo from Chris Farley
I feel like kids these days don't appreciate this movie as much as they should because they didn't have to rent it from Blockbuster 5 weeks in a row before saving up $19.99 to buy it on VHS, so go watch it if you've never seen it or if it's been a while. Absolute classic.
11:59, done. Whew.
