The State Of Florida Is Hosting A"Python Bowl"And It Looks Like An Absolute Nightmare

It is very easy to make fun of Florida. Look at the blog for Christ’s sake….

We pile it on. Which is why I try to stay away. But every once in a while a story comes across that is so undeniably ‘Florida’ that I can’t ignore it. This is one of those stories.

From CBS4 Gainesville:

Source – Friday marked the beginning of the Florida Python Challenge™ 2020 Python Bowl.

The purpose of the bowl is to remove invasive Burmese pythons from Florida’s Everglades. These snakes are native to Southeast Asia and negatively affect many of the state’s native species and food chains.

As of now, over 550 people are registered to participate in the 10-day competition. Competitors will have the opportunity to win several prizes, which will be presented on Jan. 25 at the Super Bowl Live event at Bayfront Park in Miami.

Anyone interested in participating still has the opportunity to register online at FLPythonChallenge.org. A $25 registration fee and online training course are required.

“I am hopeful the Python Bowl brings much-needed public awareness and engagement on this critical issue: pythons are severely disrupting natural food chains and continue to threaten endangered species,” said Gov. DeSantis.

$25 bucks, an online training course, and a death-wish and you can head out into the Everglades, one of the most unforgiving environments on the planet, and hunt one of nature’s top predators. A predator that can grow up to twenty-five feet long and take down a full grown deer. No. Thanks. Imagine knowing someone crazy enough to do this?

The whole thing sounds like a nightmare. But again, this is Florida we’re talking about so I’m sure people are lining up to get involved. Personally, you couldn’t pay me enough. Now here’s a clip of the Jackass boys wrestling an anaconda. Different species same concept. Best of luck to all 550 participants. You’re going to need it.
