Kash Daniel Opens Up About Battling Depression During The Football Year And How Beating Virginia Tech Helped Save Him

It's no secret that Kash Daniel is one of our guys here at Barstool. He's also one of the most beloved players at Kentucky because he's from the Commonwealth and turned out to be a centerpiece in the turnaround of the program. It's also no secret he caught a lot of shit. Most notably this happened in a play against Florida earlier this season when he was caught twisting a player's ankle.

Now the reason I'm writing this blog is because who knows who is out there battling depression. It's a real thing. I know we just like to write about comedy or sports here, but at the same time I wanted to write this because depression is a motherfucker. If this resonates with just one person it's worth it. Here's some of what Kash had to say on KSR today

“I was in a deep, deep dark place mentally throughout this whole year. I suffer from depression. That’s one thing a lot of people don’t know about me. I have this persona of this confident, ya know, kind of almost brash dude, but that’s my persona.

“I lost my grandfather this year. He was like a second Dad to me and I’m still recovering, my whole family is, because he was our rock. He was our glue that kept our family together. That’s what really sent me over the edge and put me in that dark place.”

It just shows that no matter what, no matter who you are, there are others out there battling this bitch of a disease. Kash was always someone who seemed to be having fun. He always seemed to be the leader. But in reality he was struggling. That was until the win over Virginia Tech.

“I’m in such a better place. I got my happiness back. I got my joy back.”

Again, all I hope for is that this resonates with someone. If you're battling the disease know there are others out there. Try to find something small, in Kash's instance it was a win, to help get your joy back. I hope Kash keeps his head right and continues work through the problems. Gonna miss watching him on Saturday's.
