Pearl Jam Announces New Concept Album, 'Doogie Howser & The Boyz', For 2020 Release

From Big Sound Magazine

For their 11th studio album following 2013's 'Lightning Bolt', Pearl Jam will be taking a bold new direction. Announced from their social media accounts today & on billboards around the country, the band will be releasing 15 tracks on an album titled 'Doogie Howser & The Boyz'.

If you tilted your head at this quizzically, you're not alone… So did everyone here at Big Sound. Apparently the concept album will legit be focused on the 1989 hit show Doogie Howser, M.D., which saw a young Neil Patrick Harris playing a brilliant, teen doctor compelled to help others after twice surviving leukemia as a kid.

Lead singer Eddie Vedder said the album will be a 'call back to simpler times & will remind people that with Global Warming, it’s youth like Doogie who are going to “heal us all”. It's supposed to make you think. You're supposed to be confused. We're in confusing times.'

Speaking of confusing times, here at Big Sound we're not quite sure who 'The Boyz' are on that record, but rumors have been swirling that there will be many special guests. As much as we're judging, it might be a smart move because we are absolutely going to see what this is all about.

When I told Chaps & Bren this tale on Friday after early news (I made it up spur of the moment) leaked, they took it hook, line, and sinker, and I could not believe they did. 'Doogie Hoswer and the Boyz'?! Uh, yes, Pearl Jam & Eddie fucking Vedder are doing a Doogie Howswer, M.D. concept album for Global Warming. I thought it was so obviously fake they were going to discard me right off the bat, but when they believed it I had no choice but to run with it.

Pearl Jam's 'Doogie Howser & The Boyz'… It killed me. I couldn't stop saying it…

I was blown away & delighted that I pulled off such a ridiculously stupid, lame, needless troll job.

Even our SiriusXM guy, Eric, who has seen Pearl Jam in concert 10 times, told me he'd started texting his friends during this segment like 'WTF is Pearl Jam doing?'…

And it was still making me laugh a bit today so I wanted to see if I could get anyone else. Solid blog there, Kate.

Anyways, happy Monday & here's the REAL story:
