Are We Sure Matt Rhule Deserves An NFL Head Coaching Job?

Entering the NFL coaching carousel, it seemed like nobody could get enough of one guy and one guy only: Matt Rhule.

As I'm sure you know, Rhule has been hired by the Panthers.

Rhule has become a pretty good college football coach, but what has he done that suggests he should've been the #1 target in every coaching search?

Everybody points towards his job at Temple and Baylor. Don't get me wrong, those have been two great turnarounds. His first year at Baylor was 1-11 and turned them into a Big 12 contender during his third year. I'm not sure that particularly qualifies you to be an NFL coach worth up to $70,000,000:

Some may say that Rhule led Baylor to a potential CFP berth this season. Let's take a look at Rhuels phenomenal season under a microscope:

-Blew a 28-3 lead against OU at home.

-5 wins by 1 score

-2 wins in OT.

-Blown out by Georgia's backups in the Sugar Bowl.

That was Rhule's best season and now he is one of the highest-paid coaches in the league? Why?!? He's spent 1 year at the NFL level. That's it.

Now, to play devils advocate why did Kliff Kingsbury get a job? I didn't agree with that job offer either, but at least he brings an innovative offense to the table. What does Matt Rhule bring? Really, ask yourself it, what does he bring? Why not offer that money to Lincoln Riley?
