Another Day Another Case Of Luka Doncic Doing More Ridiculous Shit

Watching Luka Doncic play basketball is fun for a lot of reasons. Despite having the ball all the damn time like he's James Harden, he doesn't get the same sort of wrap when it comes to his style of play being horrible to watch. I think a lot of that has to do with his possessions being more P&R and way less isolation, but it shouldn't exactly been a surprise when the initial All Star voting came out and there was Luka at the top. Another reason I love watching Luka play is because once the game is over we immediately get all the tweets of what type of historic record or performance this was. You can set your watch to it really. If Luka is going to play, chances are he's going to do something wildly impressive when looking at the history of the league and last night was no different.

Doing something that only Giannis has done more often? Feels like that's good. Doing shit that no other player in the NBA has done once and Luka has done it twice? Also feel like that's rather impressive. I don't think it's crazy to think he can top Dirk's 26 games of 30+ points either if he can stay healthy and Dirk is the greatest Mav of all time. He has 48 games left and needs just 12 more to do it or basically once every 4 games. That seems doable barring injury. You see the names that Luka is being mentioned with on a nightly basis and it's insane that this is already happening at this stage of his career. To think that this is the worst Luka might ever be is pretty fucking terrifying.

Whether it's fair or not, I feel like when talking about Luka you can't ignore the draft day trade with Trae Young. While the Mavs are clearly the better team, you look at what both Trae Young and Luka are doing and it's pretty ridiculous. A cool 29/8.9 for Luka which is top 3 in the league and 28.5/8.3 for Young which is 4th and 5th in the league. It's pretty damn rare that a trade like this goes down and both parties walk away with a franchise caliber player. Personally I'd ride with Luka because of his size, defense, and rebounding, but let's not pretend like Trae young hasn't been really fucking good either.

If you haven't been already, I highly recommend you make sure the Mavs are part of your League Pass rotation. Not just because they are legit as hell in a brutal Western Conference, but because chances are you're going to see Luka do some historic shit.
