Clay Helton On His 79th Ranked Recruiting Class: "We Had A Very Good Day"

The GIF above is 247Sports composite rankings for the 2020 recruiting class. At the current time, USC ranks 79th:

USC ranks behind the likes of Bowling Green and Appalachian State. They rank dead last in the PAC-12. This is bad news for Clay Helton after the early signing period wrapped up yesterday.

For some odd reason, Clay Helton doesn't seem concerned:

SOURCE-“We had a very good day today that we’re very happy about,” Helton told the Los Angeles Times, with a grin on his face. “I’m not necessarily about perception, I’m about wins and how to produce the best football team. You have to worry maybe not about popular opinion and address what your needs are.”

What you will see is that USC only has 11 commits. Just filling out the class will move USC up into the 40s-50s, but if you look at the current top 250 at 247 Sports only 20 players are uncommitted at the moment. It's not like Helton will be leaving the late signing period with 2 5-stars and 8 4-stars.

Currently, USC only has 1 4-star and 10 3-stars. That would be the worst USC recruiting class of all time. They haven't ranked outside the top 20 nationally since 2010.
