Tiger Woods Turned Down A 3 Million Dollar Offer To Play In Saudi Arabia

ZOZO Championship - Final Round

Scotsman- Tiger Woods has revealed that he turned down a big-money offer, reported to be $3 million, to play in the European Tour’s Saudi International at the end of January for the second year running. At the same time, the 15-time major winner defended Phil Mickelson’s decision to become one of the latest world stars to sign up for the £3.5 million event, joining the likes of world No 1 Brooks Koepka and defending champion Dustin Johnson. Last year’s inaugural tournament at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club attracted widespread criticism due to the Middle East country’s human rights record, with a reported 156 executions having been carried out in 2017. A few months before that tournament, Jamal Khashoggi, a journalist who had spoken out against Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the Washington Post, was murdered in the Saudi Arabia Embassy in Istanbul.

Ooooooooooo shit! Controversy! Tiger Woods turned down 3 million dollar offer to play in Saudi Arabia and the speculation has begun as to why. What would motivate a person to turn down such a large amount of money to not play in Saudi Arabia? The James Khashoggi disappearance perhaps? The country’s horrific treatment of women perhaps? Or something else perhaps?

Well you’re in luck. Because Tiger Woods was asked today why he turned down the money and it’s a doozy. So, what’s the politically-charged and controversial reason he turned down a giant sum of money to play in the always-controversial Saudi Arabia?

“I just didn’t want to go over there – it is a long way to go,” he said in reply to being asked why he had made that decision.

Boom! I love it. Everyone and their mother is speculating on the global reasons why Tiger turned down the money and he’s just like, “That place is really really far away so I’m not gonna do that.” Could there be other reasons why Tiger turned down the money to play there? Of course, it’s why it’s a topic in the first place, but I love that he simply went with the It’s Really Really Far Away reason. It’s why the Boss Man is the best. He’s not trying to be controversial or have a lengthy debate about whether or not it’s morally wrong to play in Saudi Arabia. He’s not interested in any of that what so ever. He simply doesn’t wanna make the trip. Not to mention Eldrick Woods has plentyyyyyyyy of money and doesn’t need to be sitting on a plane for 14 hours. No thank you.
