Great News: Delta To Play Same-Sex Love Scenes On In-Flight Movies

Source- Delta Airlines is showing love for same sex romance by restoring steamy scenes the company had previously edited out of movies shown on its flights, including Olivia Wilde’s “Booksmart.”

The airline is putting a new process in place to manage the content on its in-flight entertainment systems after director Wilde griped on Twitter about censorship of her acclaimed movie.

Wilde initially responded to an Oct. 27 tweet complaining that a scene in which the main character hooks up with a woman had been cut.

The director initially called the editing “truly a bummer,” noting there was no nudity in the scene. Three days later, Wilde posted a long thread examining the airline’s film service and the edited version of the movie. READ HERE.

Delta said they will restore the cuts to both “Booksmart” and the Elton John biopic “Rocketman,” which also had same-sex love scenes cut, generating criticism on social media.

The airline said it has titles including same-sex romances “Gentleman Jack,” “Imagine Me and You” and “Moonlight” on its flights.

THANK GOD. Forget the leg room, the delays, the checked bag fees, the overbooking, the attitudes, the shitty wifi, the tiny bathrooms, and the overall sub par customer service experience. I would’ve liked to see a penis thrown into the mix, but that’s just me. I will give Delta credit, they almost immediately tweeted that they are “working to make sure this doesn’t happen again.” Which I assume means combing through hundreds of outdated movies to make sure they’re weren’t straight-washed.

“We are immediately putting a new process in place for managing content available through Delta’s in-flight entertainment,” the company told The Hollywood Reporter. “Studios often provide videos in two forms: a theatrical, original version and an edited version. We selected the edited version and now realize content well within our guidelines was unnecessarily excluded from both films. We are working to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

It’s tough work but somebody has to do it. Regardless, you can rest assured knowing that if you’re on a Delta flight you’re going to see the raw uncut version of whatever movie is being played and for that, I’m thankful. Chalk this up as another win for the tribe.
