The Houston Astros Could Not Be Handling The Ugly Brandon Taubman-Roberto Osuna Situation Any Worse
So last night this bomb dropped from SI that claims the Houston Astros assistant GM Brandon Taubman, during the ALCS celebration, went up to three female reporters and pretty much bragged to them that they got Roberto Osuna. Very odd considering Roberto Osuna was the pitcher who blew the game, surrendering DJ LeMahieu's game tying homer in the 9th inning of Game 6. He wasn't bragging about how good Osuna was, he was just targeting three female reporters for some sadistic reason.
In case you are unaware, Osuna was suspended 75 games in 2018 as a member of the Blue Jays for allegedly assaulting the mother of his children. The Blue Jays wanted no part of him and the Astros decided to take him on, despite the brush back they got at the time. Charges were eventually dropped after Osuna agreed to not have any contact with the woman, Alejandra Román Cota, for a year as she went back home to Mexico.
So now here's the assistant GM bragging about having this scumbag on the team to three women and making them feel wildly uncomfortable. No one was talking about Osuna. He just thought it would be fun to brag about having a guy who beats women on the team. The Astros declined to comment on the story while Apstein was writing the article. After the story dropped, however, the Astros sent out this bizarro world statement. One they clearly put less than one second of thought into.
You send out that statement you better be sure Brandon Taubman wasn't even in the ball park. That's the only way you can admittedly deny without question that this happened. If there's even a shred of doubt you just say that you're looking into it, do not stand for anything like that, and will have more information once they go through the proper channels and figure out what happened. Simple. Nope, Houston came out and just denied the whole thing. Said that SI fabricated the story, called it misleading and irresponsible. I mean what the fuck are you thinking? That statement had to get green lit from upstairs too. That's just insane.
A member of the Houston Chronicle witnessed the incident happened and immediately backed up her story.
This is UGLY and there are multiple people who were there that back it up. The Astros could not be handling this any worse than they are. Game 1 of the World Series is tonight and with how quick the news cycle is these days I'm betting that Houston is praying this blows over. I hope it doesn't. If what Taubman did is true, and it seems like it definitely is, he should lose his job. End of story.
