MLB Is Opening A 17,000 SqFt Store In Manhattan And Oh My God We Could Leave So Much Chinese Food Laying Around In There
From Crains NY:
The league said it will open a 17,000-square foot MLB Flagship store in summer 2020—its first permanent retail store in the U.S.
17,000 square feet? Do you know how much Chinese food we could leave laying around a place like that? In practice only the Yankees fans here would actually do that, but in theory we could all leave about $10,000 worth of Lo Mien each, just scattered about on various shelving & floor space like a bunch of slobs.
But back to the MLB flagship shop since I've been told, "Kate we wore the mess thing out about 5 hours ago"…
The store at 1271 Avenue of the Americas will be run in partnership with Legends, the global marketing and hospitality group owned by the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys.
It's gonna be run by a group owned by the Yankees and Cowboys? That means the store will feel authentic and fun, and not corporate, sterile, a lil' douchey or pretentious in any way. (That sounds more pathetically salty than fun, but I'm leaving it in nonetheless.)
The store will sell merchandise from all 30 teams as well as game-used items.
The location is right on the edge of Central Park & not too far from Rockefeller Center & Times Square so they'll have no shortage of tourists rolling through. (Chaps, it can be a one-stop shop for you if you're still stuck between the Braves or the Astros.) Plus it'll be a great meet & greet hub for players to stop by when they're in the city doing press, etc. in the off season. Looking forward to seeing how the space turns out. Apparently it will also have gear from historical franchises, too, and I feel like I'd look pretty cool in a Cleveland Spiders jersey. Very cute.
