The NY Tabloids are Reduced to Begging the Patriots to Have Mercy on the Giants. Sad!

NYDNThe Giants on Wednesday officially ruled out Saquon Barkley (ankle), Evan Engram (knee), Sterling Shepard (concussion) and Wayne Gallman (concussion) for Thursday night’s Week 5 game at New England.

The Giants (2-3) were already 16.5-point underdogs as of Wednesday morning. …

This official injury news could push the line further into unprecedented territory, with rookie QB Daniel Jones leading a painfully shorthanded crew against the undefeated and reigning Super Bowl champion Patriots (5-0). …

Jones did tell the Daily News on Tuesday that he doesn’t feel sore entering this game even though it’s a short week, and that’s always good to hear.

It’s hard to believe he will feel well after Thursday’s game, however, facing such incredible odds against a defense coached by arguably the best NFL coach — and best defensive coach — of all time.

NYPThe next test, probably an assignment Jones cannot ace or even pass, comes Thursday night at Gillette Stadium, where the unbeaten Patriots figure to be far too imposing for the Giants to stand in against. …

And heading into a knife fight with a bunch of twigs is no way end a short workweek and every way a precursor to a nationally televised obliteration.

Making matters worse is a miserable weather forecast, with rain expected throughout the game and winds gusting to as high as 40 mph.

“Daniel vs. Goliath”? “Have Mercy”? What the duck is this? This is what’s become of the New York Giants and their fawning tabloids? Say it ain’t so. What happened to the Delta I used to know? Where’s the spirit? Where’s the guts, huh?! This could be the greatest night of your lives, but you’re gonna let it be the worst.

This is not the Giants media I’ve come to know and hate. The ones who’d gladly commit ritual human sacrifice if it pleased their god, Eli Manning. Who couldn’t let a week like this go by without writing hagiographies of their saints like Tom Coughlin and Michael Strahan. Who’d be singing hymns about the heroic deeds of David Tyree and Mare Winningham or whatever his name was.

But Sweet Jesus, now all it takes is a few injuries and they assume the fetal position and start praying for a quick, merciful death. “Our running backs are hurt! Our quarterback is a rookie! It’s a short week! It’s gonna be rainy! Belichick controls the weather! You’re asking too much!”

It’s goddamned embarrassing. Worse, it’s taking all the fun out of this for me. I’ve hated the New York Giants since before I knew what hate was. People like to say hatred is a learned behavior, but came out of the womb hating them. In my life I’ve never had an unhappy day when they lost a game. And the fact they put together two good months over a span of nine years and both those months cost me a championship fuels my nightmares. Hell, that regular season loss at Gillette in 2011 still haunts my steps. But now the once-worthy adversaries in their state run media are reduced to talking about how hopeless it is and begging for mercy.

In the words of that other cold, cold hearted military genius Sun Tzu, “Every battle is won before it is ever fought.” Patriots by 100.
