BREAKING: Blackhawks Sign Alex Debrincat To A Three-Year Deal And We LOVE Him

HUGE news to start the day. Alex Debrincat coming in on a bridge deal for 3 years at $6.4M AAV. That’s a GREAT deal for the Blackhawks. There was this black cloud floating around the Blackhawks re: Debrincat and Strome. If Debrincat scored another 40 goals this year he could’ve demanded a deal closer to the Matthews and Marner end of the spectrum. Debrincat clearly wants to be here, wants to play on this team and win here and that is why he signed this deal. The RFAs that were holding out this summer really set the market and Debrincat took less than some of those guys and certainly less than he would’ve gotten had he held out until next summer when the cap will likely go up again.

I always said that if the Blackhawks could get both Debrincat and Strome under contract for a combined 12 million dollars that would be a win. People said I was crazy. Maybe I was. Now it looks like that will come true. No idea what Strome will get, but there’s no way he can command more than Debrincat even if he has an 80 point year.

The Debrincat bridge deal also expires at the exact same time as Toews and Kane’s monster 10.5M AAV contracts. Who knows what the league will look like then or what those two players will be, but there will be money coming off the books for when they really need to pony up for a 40 goal scoring all-star in his prime.
