Jack Hughes Needs To Step Up His Singing Game If He Wants To Make It In The NHL
Just because Jack Hughes was the 1st overall pick, it doesn’t mean he isn’t subject to rookie hazing. Last night, Devils forward Blake Coleman posted a video to Instagram of the 18-year-old singing some ‘Wagon Wheel’ and all I have to say is yikes. Did this kid not learn anything from Matt Duchene having the voice of an angel? You want to make in the NHL? You want to get paid? You can’t stink at singing.
Jack Hughes is going to be a very good player at the NHL level, there isn’t much doubt in that. He basically broke every record the USNTDP had to offer. But that is no excuse for this terrible rendition of Wagon Wheel. Just a piss poor effort. I expected better from the 2001 born 1st overall pick.
Hughes was the 1st overall pick and put up a 5th round performance. Now, I’m sure he was a little nervous performing infront of a bunch of pro hockey players that are probably 10 or so years older than him, but who’s to say he was even versed in the song? The Wagon Wheel cover was released by Darius Rucker in 2013, Jack Hughes was 12. You know what Hughes was doing when he was 12? Playing mini sticks, eating jolly ranchers for dinner, and being a better hockey player than 75% of the country.
It’s going to be a blast watching Hughes and this new look Devils team this season and I think Wagon Wheel is inevitably Jack Hughes goal song for the rest of eternity.
