Every Last Fucking Thing You Need To Know About Shawn Porter vs Errol Spence Jr Going Into This Weekend (NSFW)

With a down week for college football scheduling (Gameday is in Nebraska?), Saturday night is looking like a fine night for some boxing. And, as luck would have it, there is a HUGE Welterweight unification fight this weekend… IBF Welterweight World Champ Errol Spence Jr vs WBC Champion Shawn Porter.

I'll tell you everything you need to know before the first bell rings and, as usual, I will pepper in some subtle smut…

It’ll be broadcast from LA’s Staple Center on FOX pay-per-view, and the 2 gentlemen have a combined record of 55-2-1 with Spence (25-0, 21 KOs) being a sizable favorite.

I think this matchup qualifies as a must-watch “super fight” even though the “super-duper fight” to be made in this stacked division is Spence vs Terence Crawford (35-0, 26 KOs)… More on that near the end of this blog.

Spence last fought in March when he fucking destroyed a smaller Mikey Garcia inside of the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium.

Not a good measuring stick for either of the participants because Garcia was inexplicably coming up in weight for that matchup and was essentially fighting in Spence’s backyard.

Saturday’s fight should be a lot more competitive even though bookies aren’t giving much respect to Porter (at last check, Errol was -800).

I am not a big fan of Shawn in general even though he's had wins vs Adrien Broner, Andre Berto, Danny Garcia, and Yordenis Ugas.  And I especially don’t like him to win versus a younger, taller, and more skillful Spence.  But I do think this could go into the later rounds, and Porter can make it interesting with his awkward (and often illegal) fighting style.

Errol has been his typical “cool as a cucumber” self throughout the promotion for this bout and Shawn seems downright mad at the fact nobody is giving him a chance. Unfortunately for Porter, anger won’t be enough to get him a win vs a guy many consider the next Floyd Mayweather. So I will take Spence in 8.  Errol had an 11 fight knockout streak snapped when his fight vs Garcia went to the cards, but I think this insanely talented Southpaw starts a new streak vs Porter on Saturday night.

With a win, Spence will turn his attention towards a fight with Pacquiao, only because every fighter wants a win against Pac on their record (even if he is 50 years old). Hopefully, after that, we can see him and Bud Crawford square up… But probably not until late 2020, at the earliest.

Should I really pay $75 for this fight, Large?

I am going to… And there's an argument you should also, if only because of the weight class on display.

There are times as I sit in my easy chair naked watching featherweight fighters punch each other for 12 rounds, and I know that although their speed is remarkable, their punching power is not explosive enough to give me the knockouts I want to see and ultimately masturbate to.  Conversely, the heavies have all the power in the world, but nothing stinks more than watching two gassed heavyweights gently pawing at each other into a boring decision.

But the welters offer it all.  At welterweight, you still have the dynamic hand speed and finesse of a smaller fighter, AND ALSO the knockout power and the ability to finish a fight.

Plus, the undercard has some intriguing matchups including a WBC Super Middleweight Championship bout between titleholder Anthony Dirrell and former champ David Benavidez.

In 2018, 22-year-old Benavidez was stripped of the WBC belt he is now fighting to get back after he failed a drug test, testing positive for cocaine…

… But he is still one of boxing's rising stars at 22-0 with 18 KOs, and Dirrell is a capable 34-year-old veteran champ with a 33-1-1 record and 24 KOs.

On top of that, you have 2 veteran welterweight sluggers going toe-to-toe with Josesito Lopez (36-8) vs John Molina Jr. (30-8).

So it's a relatively stacked card which, at the very least, has all the markings of being more entertaining than Mississippi State at Auburn… If the $75 still seems too much, then just stop by the house.  My wife and I will be messing around in the kitchen, and the French dips will be ready by 11.

Enjoy the fights and take a report.
