Ringo Star and Musicians From Around The World Covered 'The Weight' By The Band And It Is AWESOME

(SOURCE)

“What key is it in, Robbie?” Ringo Starr, sitting behind a drum set, asks Robbie Robertson over the phone. Ringo nods. “F-demented!” What happens next is a joyous cover of “The Weight,” with Robertson reprising the recording’s soulful intro lick. A series of musicians from all over the world – Marcus King, Lukas Nelson, the Japanese guitar virtuoso Char, Congo soul singer Mermens Mosengo and more – all add their own flavor to the classic from different locations.

The project comes from Playing For Change, a group dedicated to “breaking down the boundaries and overcome distances between people.”  That includes schools 15 music schools across 11 countries, documentaries and viral videos bringing artists from different cultures together

Got this video sent to me last night and I’ve watched it about 10x in the last 12 hours.  I’m trying to put into words how awesome this cover and music video are, but I’m really struggling.  Maybe that’s because it’s Friday.  Maybe it’s because I suck balls at writing.  Probably a combination of both.  But in the end it has left me kinda speechless.

What stuck out the most to me is how awesome of a dude Ringo Starr is.  He’s kinda the “forgotten” Beatle, doesn’t stop him from jamming out with random musicians from around the world, literally:

They covered the entire planet in this music video.  Kinda surreal; from Texas to Europe to the Middle East to Africa; just shows that music has no borders and that it can connect people from any given culture.  That was the most hippy thing I’ve ever said, but it’s true.

Oh, and this video took about 18 months to produce.  When there are about a billion miles between the people in it, I can see why, but in the end it came out A+.  This is music at its best.  It’s not type Cardi B dog shit that is popular today.

This is the 3rd time Playing for Change has made a music video like this.

They also covered Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song”

and “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye

which were both home runs in their own right.  If you’re a music fan, blast away.  These are awesome.
