The Best Movies From Each State BRACKET CHALLENGE

So for those of you unfamiliar with the blog series, I did a 50-week long study on the best movies set in each state of our glorious union. The study wrapped up last week with Wyoming, which means it’s time to vote on which state has the best movies out the group you guys chose. The top 3 most voted for movies are eligible for each state in this bracket challenge. It’s a 50 team, single elimination bracket with 13 byes. Instead of seeding them based of my subjective take, I logged all 150 movies critic scores from Rotten Tomatoes and seeded the states by highest-lowest average score of their three movies. Here is what the bracket looks like:

Some interesting notes based of the Rotten Tomatoes data:

– Delaware had the lowest average movie score (49%) between Fight Club (79%), Days of Thunder (39%) and Empire Records (29%).

– Massachusetts and New Mexico tied for the highest average score (93.33%) with ‘Good Will Hunting’ (97%), ‘The Departed’ (91%) and ‘The Town’ (92%) representing MA and ‘Sicario’ (92%) ‘There Will be Blood’ (91%) and ‘The Good, The Bad and the Ugly’ (97%) representing NM.

– Missouri had the lowest average deviation (1.5) with ‘Gone Girl’ (87%), ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (91%) and ‘Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri’ (90%).

– North Dakota had the largest average deviation (31.1) with both ‘Fargo’ and ‘Logan’ scoring 93% and ‘Leprechaun’ scoring a 23%

– The highest scoring first place movie was Kansas’s ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (98%). The highest scoring second place movie was New York’s ‘The Godfather’ (98%). The highest scoring third place movie was Arkansas’s ‘Mud’ (97%)

– The lowest scoring first place movie was a tie (35%) between Louisiana’s ‘The Waterboy’ and Vermont’s ‘Super Troopers’. The lowest scoring second place movie was New Hampshire’s ‘Mr. Deeds’ (22%). The Lowest scoring third place movie was a tie (23$%) between Minnesota’s ‘The Mighty Ducks’ and North Dakota’s ‘Leprechaun’.

– Adam Sandler’s movies are really not well received. His films make up 3/15 of the combined bottom 5 movies from each tier.
