Football Fans Across America Outraged Over Map
When someone looks at a U.S. map, tweeted out by a smirking 10-year-old, that depicts “the most popular football tailgate food in each state” and sees things like a stick of butter, a jar of mayo, a bowl of gummy bears, and the Body of Christ, you’d assume that they’d most certainly think something along the lines of “hmmmm…this is a little off” or maybe even, “this is clearly and obviously a joke.”
When that person continues to look at that same U.S. map of “the most popular football tailgate food in each state” and sees things that are not food, like ecstasy, chewing tobacco, cigarettes, and a human buttocks, you’d assume that any confusion about whether it was a serious map or not would be thoroughly cleared up.
And finally, if the bizarre event that the person was still frustrated or bewildered about what they saw, you’d assume that they’d maybe click on the link to the “article” that was conveniently provided with the map. In which case, they’d immediately see paragraphs like:
Which would then lead them to realize that the map and accompanying article was simply a fake list using base-level comedy and satire.
Somehow, that was not the case for hundreds and hundreds of people on Facebook and Twitter over the past two days. And not only did the thinly-veiled sarcasm go over their crimson heads, but the map caused them to get upset. Extremely upset and angry. Angry at me. Angry at science. Angry at Barstool. Even angry at Dave Portnoy.
