The Redskins Have Fielded Calls For Trent Williams But Say They Have No Desire To Trade Him (Wink, Wink)

This is Bruce Allen in his purest form. If there is one thing Bruce Allen loves doing, it’s stirring the pot between the front office, the media, and the rest of the league. He’s the NFL’s version of Gaz. If there is drama to be made, Bruce Allen has his fat finger in it. So of course Schefty tweeted the leak last night that the Skins are not trading Trent Williams, “per sources”. This is the most obvious “raise Trent Williams trade value” tactic in the book. But what makes Bruce so vindictive is he is able to raise Trent’s trade value while also calling Trent’s bluff. It’s great. He playing both sides like a puppet-master. Who will flinch first? Publicly he’s leaking they aren’t going to trade him so he should get back to work. Privately he’s taking calls seeing what he can get for him. Nobody knows what will actually happen. Not even JLC:

Look, I don’t know Jason La Canfora. I have zero existing or prior relationship with him. What I do know is he is wrong a lot. And that’s not me “hating” on him, that’s just what I’ve seen. So him tweeting “Trent Williams will be traded” is more of an educated guess in my opinion. Schefter is tweeting the known facts, JLC is tweeting his take on the situation, which very well might end up being correct.

I actually agree with JLC here, I think Trent Williams will be traded. I don’t think the Skins are in any rush to do it though, and are fine making both sides wait it out. If Trent wants to get paid, he’ll come back. If teams want an All-Pro left tackle, they’ll pony up a huge package for him. And Bruce can wait til the regular season starts and a contender inevitably loses their starting LT. He can wait for the world to burn before doing anything.

So we shall see what happens. I do not think Trent Williams takes a snap in burgundy and gold again, but crazier things have happened. Hopefully we get multiple first rounders for him. Or a first and a serviceable player who can make an impact immediately. What the Skins absolutely cannot do is settle, and I don’t think they will.
