AFC West Recap - KC vs CIN And OAK vs LAR

KC vs. CIN

As expected, the Chiefs obliterated the poor Bengals 38-17.

Darwin Thompson looks like he might just be the guy. He ran well, caught a 29-yard TD, and was destroying defenders in pass protection. Out of all their options at RB, I think he looks like the bellcow player. Mahomes and the first team guys looked fantastic, basically picking right back up where they left off. The ball was spread out to a TON of different receivers, but Mecole Hardman stood out as having a particularly good game.

On defense, believe it or not but Breeland Speaks got a sack. He’s continued to improve (specifically at pass rushing) which is a great sign. UDFA Herb Miller III had a nice pick coupled with a 67-yard return. That is something that you, in fact, love to see. They finished the night with 9 total passes defended, which is more than I expected vs even a shit team like the Bengals. 

Notes: Frank Clark is working on a wrist problem and didn’t play. This contract is total basura in my opinion, but I look forward to being proved wrong. The team plays in Pittsburgh on Saturday.

OAK vs LAR

The PETER-MAN himself was the star of this game, playing sack-out and increasing his chances of getting the number 2 QB spot this year during their 14-3 win over the Rams.

 Nathan Michael Peterman is all I really want to talk about after his insane 5-yard scramble leading to a 3-yard touchdown throw. What a maniac! Maybe the most laughed at player in the position, Nathan goes out and makes us all eat crow! Was he able to do anything else after that drive? Well, no. Not at all, really. But he finished with one more touchdown than his positional adversary Mike Glennon. Keon Hatcher looked good (he had a 3-TD game last year in the preseason) and J.J. Nelson also looked impressive.

Arden Key was the most impressive member of the defense, applying great pressure and hauling in a nice sack. There is going to be a big problem if this team can’t generate more pressure this year. I don’t know how they do it with the current cast of characters, but Goldblum voice find a way. 

Notes: AB, please stop being a weirdo and come back. Football is better when you’re playing. CB Isaiah Johnson was concussed and didn’t return The team plays in Arizona on Thursday.
