Giants GM Dave Gettleman Says 'He's Never Been A Pussyfooter Because Millennials Want Honesty And We Think Sports Started In 1979'

[Source] - “There are times where my bedside manner hasn’t been the best. People will tell you that millennials want honesty,” Gettleman says. “Sometimes I’ve been a little too abrupt and to the point. And I think it’s because I’ve never been a pussyfooter. I’ve never dallied around. … Maybe there has to be a softer, kinder Dave Gettleman. Yeah, I’m 68, but I’m not an old man falling down. I’d like to think that I can learn, that I’m agile and can still learn.”

“Media, and just in general, there are so many people who think sports started in 1979. Your generation of writers, if I said who are the 15 best players of all time, there wouldn’t be one player from before ’90.”

Alright, let me preface this by saying I’m a diehard Giants fan and also think Dave Gettleman has been an utter disaster in his short time with the Giants. So some of this may be coming from that aspect where I just want the Giants to be goddamn competitive again and not a shitshow. Not asking for much.

What I am confused about is the millennials line. You’re telling me our generation is the only one that wants to hear the truth? Baby Boomers want to be lied to? That makes sense, I guess? I always thought we didn’t want honesty and wanted to be lied to about how great everything is. I’m getting confused on the consensus of our generation.

But I want to address the 1979 comment. Of course we think sports started in 1979, most people only remember sports they can actually watch. Plus, we’re not exactly lying. Most of the best players in NFL/NBA/whatever are from our era. Of course we’re going to say Brady, Montana, Marino, Elway are the best quarterbacks.

Clem has said it before and it’s worth saying again – Gettleman just needs to shut the fuck up and stay away from microphones. Every single time he talks it sounds worse and worse and it just pisses Giants fans off more.

You can make the case that this is the last free year for Gettleman. That he’s out here trying fix what Jerry Reese fucked up. I’ll buy that argument a bit. But he hasn’t done anything that gets you excited. This last draft the Giants had two top-17 picks and needed help with a pass rusher and a QB. Instead of taking the best pass rusher in Josh Allen and then Jones at 17, he did the exact opposite. Oh, he also made sure to mention that he fell in love with Jones after watching him play THREE (3) series at the Senior Bowl.

Now since I believe I’m a millennial I want honesty and won’t pussyfoot around. Shut the fuck up until you produce something that’s somewhat competitive, Dave.
