THE TRAILER FOR 'JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT' IS HERE AND IT'S AN AMAZING NOSTALGIA TRIP

I think I just filled the cup.
If you were unaware, Kevin Smith is literally my favorite person and biggest inspiration on earth. All of my content, in one way or another, is inspired by him, and has been since the day I got started here. Hell, even my work ethic, and the way I went about getting this job was inspired by him. I try every day to life my life by two simple words he hammers home, and worked I got permanently inked on my skin a few years back…
“Why not?”
I love his podcasts, his Q&A DVDs, his interviews, his TV shows, and of course, what started it all – his movies. Actually, now that I think of it, the fact that Kevin Smith was even making ‘Jay & Silent Bob Reboot’ was the first thing I EVER blogged on this site that wasn’t MMA-related.
I’ve followed the production of this flick as closely as I’ve followed the production for any Star Wars or superhero movie, and couldn’t possibly be more excited for it, soooooooo you could say today was huge for me as we got our very first look at Jay and Silent Bob on the big screen in liiiiiike 13 years and much, muuuuch, muuuuuuuuuuuuch more in the form of a Red Band trailer for ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’!!!
Let’s break this shit down!
As the trailer starts, we see a SWAT team led by the hilarious Donnell Rawlings (Kev’s co-star in ‘Hollyweed’) and David Dastmalchian closing in on the Quick Stop/RST Video in Leonardo, New Jersey, and the RST Video appears to be in the process of converting to something called a “Cock Smoker”, with the tagline “BAKED CHICKEN SANDWICHES”. Maybe a chicken place, maybe a dispensary, maybe both! Who knows! I’d bet that they’re in charge, though, and are opening the place up with the leftover royalty money from ‘Bluntman & Chronic’!
Brodie Bruce (played by Jason Lee, of course) then informs the boys that a REBOOT of ‘Bluntman & Chronic’ is on the way, titled ‘Bluntman v Chronic’ very similarly to how he informed them that the original ‘Bluntman & Chronic’ film was being made in ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’, and we get a glimpse of who is playing the stoner superheroes…MELISSA BENOIST (AKA SUPERGIRL) is Chronic, and VAL KILMER (AKA BATMAN) is Bluntman. Unfuckingbelievable. Amazing. Melissa Benoist is one of my favorite actresses on the planet and she is, in my eyes, the main, core, reason behind the success of ‘Supergirl’, and Val Kilmer is, well, Val fucking Kilmer.
Also, you’ll notice the Ranger Danger (fictional superhero in the View Askewniverse) comic holding the ‘Bluntman v Chronic’ ad on the back of it features an amazing ‘Into The Spider-Verse’ inspired cover…
…and Brodie’s shirt from ‘Mallrats’ has now cleared up, and zoomed out a bit, revealing the face of the one and only Stan Lee:
From there, we go to a courtroom scene revealing scenes with Craig Robinson, who worked with Smith before on ‘Zack & Miri Make A Porno’, Justin Long, who’s been in a buuuunch of Smith’s stuff (most notably the ever so amazing and fucked up ‘Tusk’, which I saw three times in theaters), and new friend of Barstool Sports, Joe Manganiello, who I would have to guess met Kevin through his iMDBoat interviews at Comic Con one of these years!
Mooby’s is back!
As is Shannon Elizabeth as Justice, AKA Boo Boo Kitty Fuck, and she drops the bomb that HER AND JAY HAVE A LOVECHILD – named Millennium Faulken or “Milly” for short!! Harley Quinn Smith, Kevin’s real life daughter, plays her, and appears to have a deaf pal to be the Silent Bob to her Jay! Fucking brilliant!
They’ll be accompanying the boys to Hollywood in this film, which is also just fucking beautiful on a human level. Kevin Smith’s best movies are the ones that really display the “making movies with his friends” dynamic on-screen, where the chemistry and passion between the group bleeds through into the performances, and he wrote this to star in it with his lifelong best friend and daughter. That’s gotta bring a tear to your eye. If it doesn’t, smoke some weed and re-read that shit!
Fred Armisen then makes a brief appearance in what may be the funniest moment of the entire trailer for me…
There’s a great callback to the Mallrats blueprint plan that follows…
…and here’s where shit gets REAAAAAAALLY fucking wild: MATT FUCKING DAMON AS LOKI FROM ‘DOGMA’!!!
(Not to be confused with Matt Damon as Loki from ‘Thor: Ragnoarok’)
That blew my fucking mind. For some reason, my idiot brain never even considered he’d be in it, despite the fact that Matt Damon LOOOOVES cameos and this IS the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ of the View Askewniverse. And then…
Are you kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me? Ben Affleck in a View Askew film in 2019? Have I died and gone to heaven? What have I done to deserve this, ‘Endgame’, and ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ all in one calendar year?! I really never thought I’d see the day. I don’t even think I was necessarily jonesin’ for him to be in a Kevin Smith movie, just for he and Kevin to reunite in some way, shape, or form, as I always felt bad that their friendship kinda faded away the way it did after Ben got married. Hopefully there’s a podcast from these two in the future. Oh, and back to the trailer…Ben’s back playing Holden McNeil, Bluntman & Chronic’s co-creator, and seemingly hosting a live podcast at Chronic-Con called ‘Bluntman Beyond’, a play on Smith’s ‘Fatman Beyond’!
Silent Bob BURSTS into a panel in a full fledged Iron Man/Blunt Man Mark I suit, and it looks AWESOME…
We get a few more glimpses at cameos, including the God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth…
…which means; Thor and Loki, together again!
Rosario Dawson returns as Becky, and my god does she look as good as ever…
…and then we get mothafuckin’ M.E.T.H.O.D. MAAAAAAAN & Redman reprising their roles from ‘How High’, bringing stoner universes together and likely blowing the minds of EVERYBODY who watched this shit high:
Finally, Brian Quinn (an OLD SCHOOL View Askew employee and NEW SCHOOL Impractical Joker) steps up to the mic in cosplay as Bluntman, and asks how the “original” Bluntman and Chronic, Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek, how they feel about the reboot…
…and we get one final cameo, from the one, the only, TOMMY CHONG, who is in the Bluntcave in what appears to be an Alfred-like role. Once again…brilliant.
I can’t fucking wait for this movie, as you could probably tell, being I just wrote eleven-hundred words dissecting everything I could get my eyes on in the sub-three minute trailer, and hopefully you guys feel the same way. It’s gonna be the greatest nostalgia trip ever, with cameos up the ass, and from the sounds of it based on what Kevin Smith and others involved have said over the past few months, it’s gonna get emotional as fuck. Everyone is saying it’ll make you cry. Sooooo it’ll DEFINITELY make me cry.
They’re touring with the flick for a few months, and then it’s going to get a one night release nationwide on October 17th, and another one night release on October 19th, paired with ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’. Speaking from experience, if you’re a Kevin Smith fan, go see the movie on tour. It was an amazing experience for ‘Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie’ to be surrounded by other die hard fans, with exclusive merchandise and shit, some people in cosplay, and you get to watch a live podcast/Q&A afterwards with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes. It’s awesome. If you can’t make it though, plan on being free the night of October 17th.
