The Game Of Thrones Finale Was Nominated For An Emmy For Outstanding Writing, Somehow

I cannot believe how actually upset I am right now.

Big news from the television academy today:

Outstanding writing? Bitch, where.

Listen, I don’t know if you remember the genuine, actual meltdown I and the rest of the sane people on the planet had after watching this horseshit episode, but it’s burned into my brain. Everyone I watched the episode with was laughing OUT LOUD at how bad it was. The first half of the episode was good, truly, but the second half? THE SECOND HALF? Where Bran the Broken ended up on the Iron Throne? Where Jon Snow was sent BACK TO THE KNIGHT’S WATCH? Where EDMURE TULLY TALKED FOR A FULL MINUTE TO BE COMEDIC RELIEF? WHERE TYRION WAS PRESENTED WITH “A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE” WRITTEN BY SAM?

I’m sorry, there is no world in which that episode (which featured what had to be some of the laziest writing in television history) deserved even a smiley face sticker, let alone an Emmy. I forgot how angry the finale made me until this exact moment but hoo boy, they really screwed this show up. Benioff and Weiss deserve nothing. Not an award, not my respect, nothing.

I think Kayce actually said it best:

Listen, I don’t even watch award shows. But I do feel like they should reflect the best of the best, right? In theory isn’t that what they’re supposed to be about? Game of Thrones season 8’s writing does not deserve any accolades or awards. Did past seasons? Yes. Does the set design, costumes, acting, directing, lighting even possibly deserve an award? Sure! But the fact that possibly the most poorly written episode in Thrones history could win an Emmy for writing is batshit insane and I hope the television academy knows that.
