Instagrammers Have Been Flocking To Siberia To Get Pictures In The World's Most Beautiful "Turquoise Lake" - Turns Out It's A Toxic Chemical Waste Dump For An Electric Factory

Ahhhhh…here it is.  Siberia’s “Turquoise Lake” – so unbelievably beautiful and serene it’s been dubbed “the Novosibirsk Maldives.” Soak in the beauty.  Imagine yourself floating in the resplendent waters beneath the sun as a gentle breeze blows through your hair, your own tropical oasis.

It’s no surprise the lake has become one of the hottest spots on the planet for up-and-coming Instagram Models, looking to make a “splash” (nice) in the IG world and boost those influencer stats through the ceiling with their photos from the best locations.    There are the bikini models, the shirtless broskis with tattoo sleeves, the couples doing paddleboard kisses – even wedding photos!

I mean just look at it.  It’s so extraordinary it got it’s own Instagram account – @ maldives_nsk .

Unfortunately for the non-Russian speaking models, those funny looking shapes and symbols say something kind of important.

Celebrate the story in storis, send the photo to the direct, publish Green dump from CHP 5 with turquoise water! : )

Wait…green dump? From CHP 5?  What’s that, some kind of Russian slang?

Unfortunately, the language here lines up pretty much dead even with our own: it’s a chemical dump site for an energy plant.

A turquoise lake in Siberia has become a sparkling background for Instagram photos, drawing so many people that a nearby coal plant operator had to issue a warning: It’s not a pristine oasis, it’s a chemical dump.

“You can not swim in the ash dump,” the Siberian Generating Company said in a statement after its artificial lake became a “star of social networks.” (BF News)

The toxic waste site for “Heating and Electrical Station No. 5,” to be exact.  Helps explain the couple of selfie-takers who reported on the water:

One person who recently posted a selfie there noted the water was “warm and tastes sweetish,” but didn’t recommend others try it: “It’s better not to repeat.”

…”The next morning my feet are slightly turned red and itched for two days,” Instagram user tweezer_nsk posted with a picture of a man floating on the water in a black ski mask and inflatable unicorn. “Water tastes slightly sour, similar to chalk.”

Obviously, that news was just a minor setback for the budding superstars of influencing.  They’re still hitting the toxic lake with all the lenses and filters it can handle, swimsuits on and fit-tea in hand.

Oh and there’s an explanation for that stunning green color…and it’s not God.

The lake gets its vibrant blue color from chemicals produced at the plant. Calcium salts and other metals dissolve from coal ash that is dumped into the water through pipes coming from the heating and electrical station.

Listen I get it, it’s fun to thumb your nose and sneer at the relentless narcissism and self-absorption of these Instagram models, and the lengths they will go to get people to look at their filtered faces and altered realities and “look at how fucking AWESOME my life is, I SWEAR” attitudes.  But don’t you ever say these guys don’t hustle.  They lay it all on the line and dedicate themselves to their craft like no others.  To the point where they’re swan diving into a literal fucking TOXIC CHEMICAL WASTE DUMP to get their product.

Plus, there’s always Photoshop to edit out that mutant third leg you grow.
