Homeward Bound II: Good Boy Rescued After Nearly A Week In The Arizona Mountains

One lucky dog is back with his owners after a dramatic rescue on a mountain.
The Peoria Fire-Medical Department posted photos of a rescue team carrying a dog named Toby down the mountain Monday afternoon on a big wheel stretcher.
Hikers found Toby on top of a mountain about five days after his family said he went missing. He was injured, bitten, hungry and dehydrated.
The fire department said the owners and a neighbor could not get Toby off the mountain because of his size and the rough terrain. So firefighters climbed the mountain with their gear, treated Toby and helped him down.
Toby is now back at home with his family and recovering
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve seen Homeward Bound, but I promise you I’d still ugly-cry at the end if I watched it again. I’m not sure if Toby has a ‘Peter’ back home, but whoever was holding out hope has to be beyond relieved after their good boy was alone in the Arizona mountains for almost a week.
Admittedly, I’ve only ever had one goldfish & one cat, but I remember nights as a kid where my cat (RIP Jetty Boiii) wouldn’t come back to the house & I’d panic. I’d whistle & shake treats at the back door until my parents made me go to bed, where I’d then lie awake teary-eyed thinking of every terrible thing that could possibly happen to him. (In my worst daydreams he’d be lost, unable to make ends meat on his own, & have to take a soul sucking accounting job so he could eat.)
I also have to say, if I saw Toby on the street I wouldn’t take him for the Bear Grylls dog type. (Dog Grylls?) He looks like a friendly stuffed animal with a perm who just wants to roll in dirt over at the park, and not quite a tough canine able to power through animal bites, injuries, hunger & dehydration. Glad my impression was wrong & hopefully he’s back at the park soon after he’s finished recovering from the whole ordeal. Happy for the family & glad we have people like the Peoria Fire Department looking out for us & our best friends.
