RIP Bill Buckner, His Curb Your Enthusiasm Cameo Will Always Be All-Time

Bill Buckner lost his battle to dementia earlier today which is some really sad news in the baseball world. He was a genuinely good baseball player who had a great career and was an even better guy off the field. Obviously he’ll always be remembered for making that error fielding a ground ball in the 10th inning when playing for the Boston Red Sox that ended Game 6 of the 1986 World Series against the New York Mets, but when someone dies I don’t like to harp on bad moments like that one. I’m an asshole, but I’m not evil. Bill always handled that moment in stride and took it all on the chin. He didn’t run away from that moment once and instead answered every question like a man all his life. I respect the shit out of that. People hear Bill Buckner and they think of that play, but he had himself a great career, compiling 2,715 hits including the NL batting title in 1980 for the Cubs.

During Season 8 of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, he made an incredible cameo in episode 9 where he ended up catching a baby falling out of a burning building. There were a lot of cameos by some famous people on that show, but Bill’s might be number 1.

Rest easy, Bill.
