Apparently The Lakers Are Going To Have To Kill Gayle Benson If They Want To Trade For Anthony Davis

(SI) - New Orleans Pelicans owner Gayle Benson is extremely opposed to trading Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers, ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan reported on Friday.

According to MacMullan, the Pelicans’ new lead executive would report directly to Benson, who fired general manager Dell Demps in February over his handling of Davis. Benson appears unwilling to send Davis to his preferred destination.

“We have been told, I think, through channels – most of us have heard this same scuttlebutt – that Gayle Benson has basically told him, ‘To the Lakers, over my dead body,'” MacMullan said.

Oh hell yes. Gayle Benson I could kiss you right now after hearing that quote. There’s nothing better than pettiness and the fact that she is still holding a grudge after the shit that LeBron and Klutch Sports tried to pull at the trade deadline is fantastic. There are reports out there that Benson truly hates the Lakers for it, that she feels it ruined their season and frankly she’s right. So what do you do as a response? Under no circumstances do you allow Anthony Davis to be traded to the Lakers. Even if that’s a bad basketball decision in the event the Lakers are the ones to end up with the best overall package for Davis, I respect the hell out of Benson not giving a shit. She’d rather put her franchise in a worse spot than cater to LeBron and while that’s mostly stupid I fully support that plan.

Things got interesting once the league helped LeBron and gave him a top 4 pick, so the fact that in the end it may be pretty much worthless in terms of improving their chances at getting AD is beautiful. I’m sure we’ll hear the spin about how this draft is actually a 4 player draft if the Lakers are unable to move the pick. My question is how badly does LeBron want this trade to happen? How badly does he want to make the Lakers a contender? Gayle Benson is 72 years old, and I’m not saying LeBron would go the Olenna Tyrell route but listen the NBA is ruthless. He’s certainly not getting any younger and his window is closing more and more with each passing season.

I’d just like to tell Gayle Benson to stay strong. I’m sure your basketball people will tell you to make a move like this if it truly is the best option for your franchise. Fuck that, don’t give in. If you lose Davis then so be it, at least you have Zion. If you have to move him take one of the other offers that should still be pretty good. Send those assholes in LA a message that they messed with the wrong small market and you’d rather stink than see them flourish, that’ll really show them.

All I know is if you thought the Lakers disaster of an offseason was coming to an end because they got lucky in the lottery, well you my friend have not been paying attention.
