The Lakers Have Finally Found Their Head Coach... Well, Coaches

Frank Vogel was a really good head coach in Indiana. I’ll never shit on anyone for not being able to make it work on a young team like Orlando, especially when only given two years with a perpetually rebuilding franchise. However, it should be noted that the Magic did make the playoffs the year after he left. And there were whispers around the League that Aaron Gordon didn’t listen to Vogel at all. Luckily the Lakers don’t, at all, have any stars prone to ignoring coaching or undermining their superiors. Nope. No one at all. Not a soul coming to mind who could or would ever fit that description.

Shout out to Ty Lue, who saw what could only be described as the worst coaching situation imaginable and said no thank you. Not that Ty Lue is the greatest coach to ever grace God’s green Earth, but this level of decision making should be a big plus for him in his next interview. According to Yahoo! Sports:

The Lakers pushed for former NBA coaches Frank Vogel and Jason Kidd to be added to Lue’s coaching staff, sources said. Although Lue wasn’t fond of having his staff picked for him, he would have relented if his contract terms were met, sources said.

So, if I understand this correctly, the Lakers didn’t want to hire one coach, but three? One being a guy who used to coach LeBron, another who used to coach against LeBron, and a third who took a ring away from LeBron in 2011. I suppose the logic there is that he’s bound to respect one of them? Which, while I get the want to appease LeBron, doesn’t that open up a whole heap of problems? Like the first time he doesn’t listen to Vogel and turns to Kidd. It’s like asking your father for something, him saying no, so you go and ask your mother. Then when she says yes your parents end up fighting because you went behind the other’s back.

Which is precisely why Lue was pushing so hard for a five year deal over the three year deal that he turned down and Vogel ended up accepting. Because when LeBron inevitably picks which coach he likes the best and Rob Pelinka fires everyone else you want as much money coming back to you as possible. Vogel’s taking a risk, Jason Kidd is about to put on his best Littlefinger impersonation in hopes of usurping the throne.

That’s right. This Jason Kidd has to concoct a sinister coup to overthrow Frank Vogel and sit on Phil Jackson’s giant coach’s chair.
