Happy 20th Anniversary To SpongeBob SquarePants, A Childhood Hero

Spongebob 20

Has it really been 20 years since this show first aired?? 20 years ago, I was still required to wear a helmet on my head in public. 20 years ago, was also the birth of the greatest cartoon show ever, SpongeBob SquarePants.

SpongeBob SquarePants will always be my favorite television show. It’s something that we all grew up on. I remember sitting on the couch watching the pilot episode “Help Wanted” where SpongeBob fed an army of anchovies Krabby Patties with his spatula.

“Meep.”

I can honestly say I’ve seen and remember every episode from 1999-2009ish. It was truly the golden era of this show. From the episodes with Bubble Bass trying to finesse SpongeBob’s job, Bubble Boy turning out to be real, Squidward trying a Krabby Patty for the first time (Just One Bite), the countless times Plankton tried stealing the secret formula form Mr. Krabs, and the greatest duo of all time, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy fighting against Man Ray and a bubble full of fart, these were just a handful of great moments that made this show amazing.

Who could forget the SpongeBob SquarePants movie?? Not only was that the first SpongeBob “episode” to go big screen, it was one of the greatest movies ever. The story of SpongeBob and Patrick searching for King Neptune’s crown was a rollercoaster of emotions and comedy. SpongeBob and Patrick got wasted off ice cream, the Goofy Goober song ROCKED, and the fucking dude from Knight Rider was in it! David Hasselhoff! It was one of the greatest movies ever made and you can’t change my mind.

To this day, I’m still amazed that it’s been 20 years, and how Mr. Krabs has a whale of a daughter. I’m not describing the weight of his daughter; Pearl is actually a whale. It doesn’t make sense, and it never will.

There are so many great quotes that make my college friends and I laugh out loud. The best thing about this show is that it was made for little kids, but still has people our age chuckle. Remember these?

-SpongeBob: The Hash-Slinging Slasher!

-Patrick: “Oh, East. I thought you said, Weast!”

-SpongeBob:”Patrick can you hear me?!”

-Patrick: No, it’s too dark in here.”

-Bubble Bass: “Still no pickles! See?”

pcks

-“Krabs is a”

Dolphin noise: *****

-Tom: Chocolate!?!?!?!?!

-SpongeBob: “The pioneers used to ride this baby for miles”

-SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs singing “Without You”

-The F.U.N song

-SpongeBob: “Hey Patrick, I thought of something funner than 24.”

Patrick: “Let me hear it.”

SpongeBob: “25.”

-E.V.I.L (Every Villain Is Lemons)

ll

-Sweet Victory

-SpongeBob: “Hey Patrick, what am I now?”

Patrick: “Uhh, stupid?”

SpongeBob: “No, I’m Texas!”

Patrick: “What’s the difference?!” (Shoutout Kayce)

These are just a few that instantly come to mind. Maybe one day I’ll list the greatest quotes and episodes ever said and made. Until then, I wanted to show my appreciation for this dynasty of a show. Because of this show, I might die not knowing 3 things:

1. How was this world created? 2. How the hell can a Sponge grill a burger underwater? 3. What is the Krabby Patty secret formula?

Thanks for being a part of my life SpongeBob. Here’s to another 20 years, I hope.
