Teen Is Falsely Convicted Of Stealing MLB Player's Cleats, Gets Sentenced To 18 Months Of Digging Holes In The West Texas Desert

SOURCE

Texas teen Stanley Yelnats’ sentencing hearing was today, 6 months after being charged with the theft of Clyde “Sweet Feet” Livingston’s cleats that he was auctioning off at a charity.  The teen was sentenced to 18 months of digging holes at Camp Green Lake with no possibility of early release.

I watched Holes last night.  Good movie.  I “read the book” and did like 12 book reports on it in middle school.  But after watching it for the first time in like 8 years last night, I was left disgusted.

Look, everyone knows the American prison system has some, if not a lot of flaws.  Just ask Kim Kardashian and President Trump.  They met to discuss this manner at the White House last year or some shit.

But Stanley Yelnats, who has no criminal history of note, getting sentenced to 18 months of digging holes in the desert is the greatest miscarriage of justice in the history of our great country.  Classic case of the punishment NOT fitting the crime.  I mean it’s a pair of shitty cleats.  Baseball memorabilia took a big hit in value after the 2008 recession so it’s not like those things are even worth anything today.

But to force someone to dig holes?  That’s fucked up.  Cruel and unusual punishment to the very max.  Have you ever dug a hole?  It absolutely fucking sucks.  Dirt is heavy.  Lifting heavy shit sucks ass.  My dad made me dig the post holes while he was putting in a new fence at our house when I was like 14 and it is the most mental anguish I’ve ever had to deal with in my life.

Here’s a list of things that I’d rather do than dig holes

1. get waterboarded
2. 18 months of solitary confinement
3. lethal injection

Digging holes every day in the Texas desert should be reserved for people like Al Qaeda, serial killers a la Jefferey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacey, and pitchers who have no ability to command their fastballs.  It’s an utter disgrace what happened to Yelnats.
