After 1,337 Plate Appearances, Joey Gallo Finally Hit His First Ever Sacrifice Fly, Which Defies All Logic Known To Man

We’ve had some weird shit go down in baseball to start the year. For starters, Joey Votto popped out to first base for the first time in his career. Chris Davis had an 0-54 streak dating back to last year that was snapped and now he’s just a pretty good hitter out of nowhere. Fernando Rodney tied Cy Young in career appearances, which just seems incorrect typing out. Well Joey Gallo’s accomplishment yesterday might be number one on the bizarre scale.

Through 1,337 career plate appearances, Joey Gallo had never hit a sacrifice fly. That is simply outrageous considering all Gallo does is lift the ball in the air. I don’t think he’s ever hit a ground ball before. He’s the epitome of home run or strikeout. He generally hits more home runs than singles. But you would assume a guy with back to back 40 home run seasons and hits balls as high in the air as he does, would have at least one sacrifice fly. Nope, not Joey. Gallo basically possesses the worst situational hitting ever. Man on third less than two outs, you’re fucking high as a kite if you think Joey is just trying to get the one run home. It’s everything or nothing, sorry Texas that’s how he rolls.

When he does decide to score all of the runs, it’s a beautiful sight to see.

There is no more majestic sight in the game today than a Gallo tank shot. He scrapes the clouds on every blast and it never ceases to amaze me. To start 2019 he’s absolutely scalding the ball, even posting a .281 batting average with an OPS of 1.116. I get lost on YouTube watching Joey Gallo home runs.
