Ben Simmons Scoring A Playoff Career High 31-Points Against The Nets Was Actually Bad, According To A NY Times Writer
A lot of people think they have takes. Folks log on to Al Gore’s internet every day and think they’re bringing Skip Bayless level fire to the world. But you don’t actually know takes until you see some real deal in the field fucking TAKES. Benjamin Hoffman put on his tweed jacket, lit a match for his corncob pipe, leaned back and let this take FLY to show the kids out there what this game is really all about.
Saying Jared Dudley actually won this tête-à-tête is a take so preposterous I can’t help but respect it. Look at how dejected this man was late in the fourth quarter and tell me he got the upper hand.
You can’t. You never would have even thought about it. Because you’re not Ben Hoffman. You don’t see the game within the game. Simmons following up a triple double in Game 2 with a playoff career high 31-points with Embiid farting up the sidelines was actually bad.
This is why I was so critical of Dudley yesterday when he made these comments. He tried too hard in the moment. If he had stuck with the tried and true, “Ben Simmons shoot a three you coward” everything would have worked out fine. Simmons knows he can’t shoot threes and wouldn’t have dragged Dudley around the court by his collar like Steve Francis in the club had he stuck to the company line. Instead look at him.
But then again, this is what separates people like me from the New York Times. I watched this game and thought, “Wow, Ben Simmons looks great. He’s really dominating out there and winning a pivotal Game 3 on the road.” Benny “Big Takes” Hoffsman just sees the game with more clarity than you or I could ever hope. Way to blow the series and your career by dominating your detractors, Simmons. I hope it was worth it.
