Dustin Poirier Is The NEW UFC Interim Lightweight Champion After ANOTHER Instant Classic Bout

Nights like tonight remind us why MMA is the greatest, most unpredictable sport on the planet.

Holy shit.

Just moments after Stylebender/Gastelum, one of the best fights I’ve ever seen in my life, Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway put on another instant classic in UFC 236’s main event. Poirier controlled the majority of the fight, almost finishing Holloway with a terrifying flurry of blows in the first, and continuously clipping him throughout, but Max shone like he always does – in volume, and in heart – displaying exactly why he’s a world champion. Face bloodied and battered from absorbing the hardest shots he ever had in his career, Blessed was STILL talking shit and moving forward!

In the end, I did feel Dustin deserved the win, and I’m happy the judges got it right, despite it possibly kicking off the My Mom’s Basement curse, especially after hearing his post-fight interview. He thanked his wife, who he’s been with for over ten years, proclaimed that the title was as much hers as it was his, as she’s been there for him every step of the way, gave a ton of props to Holloway, and told Khabib to get his shit together, cause they got belts to unify!

Max then gave his post-fight interview, and showed just as much respect to Poirier as he received from the new champ, if not more, made no excuses for the loss whatsoever, and just sorta made sure the moment was about Dustin, and not himself. Seeing the mutual respect from these two was beautiful, and reminded me why I fell in love with MMA in the first place. I’m ready to be done with all of that bad blood shit my guy started. Ain’t got no time for that nonsense.

P.S. Hey Mrs. Poirier, in the most respectful way possible, being you’re married to who I’d now consider one of the scariest humans on the planet…sup?

Double P.S. This is easily one of the greatest stretches in MMA history. Wow.
