Martellus Bennett Says He Won't Come Back to the Pats in Order to Inspire Children, or Something Like That

“Swipe. This is why I can’t come out of retirement. I would love to play ball with my brother it would truly be a dream come true. But my biggest dream is to change lives with my creativity and that is what I am currently doing @theimaginationagency these kids don’t need another athlete to look up to or to aspire to be there’s plenty of inspiration out there for that. I want to inspire the next wave of creatives. The storytellers. The engineers. The designers. The doctors. The filmmakers. The composers. Tech moguls. And maybe a few athletes who like me never felt like they belonged in a locker room. I was never one of the guys guys most of my teammates would tell that. I’ve always been a creative who enjoyed competing. I’m playing the game that I was made to play and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had. Scoring touchdowns winning a super bowl has never made me feel the way seeing kids/families/people enjoying things I have created. I’m doing my life’s work fulfilling what I believe to be my life’s purpose. I hope everyone finds something that makes them as happy and as fulfilled as I have with my work @theimaginationagency I appreciate all of the love but this is waaaaayyy bigger than the game of football.” – Martellus Bennett

Well, it was a fun idea while it lasted. A couple of weeks ago when Martellus Bennett was posting on Instagram about his workouts and screaming about getting back together with Gronk for what would’ve been their Lethal Weapon 3,

… and then the Pats picked up Michael Bennett, it seemed like a natural. A total no brainer. Another version of the McCourty brothers united on the same roster to bring us another Super Bowl.

But it would appear that dream is dead. Crushed by Martellus’s selfish desire to change lives by inspiring children to be creative.

I mean, that’s what this comes down to, right? Bennett wants to give kids a role model so they’ll grow up to be storytellers, engineers, designers, doctors, filmmakers, composers and tech moguls? Well that’s all well and good. And I’m not trying to make this all about me. But … what about me? Has he seen the Patriots roster right now? He can say we don’t have enough creatives and he has a good point. But we don’t have enough tight ends, either. Not on this team. Not at this time.

So yeah, I want to respect his decision. I believe that children are our future and all that. And as a guy who’s authored two published books, I get the appeal of seeing your thoughts in print and having people say it brought a little joy into their lives. But people need tight ends, too. There are plenty of ways to inspire others, and right now I’m all about the inspiration that comes from a well-executed Wham block and a route combination that draws a double team away from Gronk. That makes people happy. That is fulfilling. But I guess Martysaurus disagrees.

Which is fine. It’s his life and he’s free to spend it not contributing to the next Super Bowl run. Fine. I’m not bitter. You just hate to see a guy so caught up in trying to make the world a better place for children and their families that he throws away the chance to win another ring.
