Huge Kick In The Nuts: Cascade Drive-In To Close After 57 Years

As you can see this news came out on Friday, but I didn’t write about it because I wasn’t about to let everybody go into their St. Patrick’s Day weekend with this kind of somber report.

Maywood Race Track (officially) and Cascade is too much to lose in the first couple months of 2019. It’s really such a shame that a couple true Chicagoland area staples that provided a unique type of entertainment have just vanished into the night.

Cascade’s situation was alot different than Maywood’s though as Cascade said that they were still doing well and making money, but it was the property owner that wanted to do something different with the land. I get it that it’s that dudes right, but fuck him for wanting some big ass Amazon warehouse and killing the drive-in.

If you’ve never been I highly suggest making the trek up to McHenry to go to their drive-in before they finally close them all. The old school feel they have with the pre-credits concession stand video is something that will make you feel like you’re in a John Hughes movie.

The only thing I don’t understand is why Cascade doesn’t try to find another big ass plot of land and re-make it somewhere else? There’s surely no shortage of big ass plots of land that need to be leased all over the place in this city. Grab the screen and the popcorn machine and keep the train rolling.

But, anyway…farewell to an awesome place that I’m sure so many people have very fond memories about from first dates to a kids first time at the movies.

I might have to get my ass down there and buy that hot chocolate machine now.
