Johnny American Football Is Back

He’s back, folks.

Just a few weeks ago, the CFL parted ways with Johnny and all signs pointed to the fact that he would end up back in America with either the AAF or the XFL.

“[The AAF] is great for football, it’s great for the guys who need more opportunity, need more film and time to play. I don’t know exactly what my exact steps will be for the next years coming up, but at least there’s a lot of options. Me and E.B. [agent Erik Burkhardt] are fully committed to playing ball and trying to get into the best situation possible and that’s what it’s all about.”

“Just keep going. It’s easy to get discouraged, especially with how things have gone every single day. It’s just trying to win the day-by-day, the one day battle of trying to win that day to do good as good as you can. It hasn’t always been easy – hit some speed bumps here and there – but I’m playing ball. I’m back to a position where I can do what I love doing and what a great year and opportunity it’s been for me.”

And here we are.

He’ll report to Tennessee on Sunday to play for Mike Singletary’s 1-5 Memphis Express. They STINK and have started both Christian Hackenburg and Zach Mettenberger this season. (Quite a QB room.) So this move makes sense. From what I understand, Johnny’s going to be eligible to play right away. But if his first game starting in the CFL was any indication, they should probably give him a week or two to get the play book down before throwing him into the line of fire.

It’s definitely not a bad move for the league either. The AAF had that huge opening weekend where everybody lost their minds and thought it would out-rate the NBA (lol) and then has been struggling ever since.

But like Rovell said in his tweet above, it’s no secret that Johnny still gets clicks. Maybe this signing will get people to tune back in to the AAF if only just to see if the third league is a charm for #2’s ComebackSZN.
