Luis Severino Will Miss The First Month Of The Season But That Does Not Mean the Sky is Falling, So Relax

Listen, this is not ideal. Considering the second half that Sevy had last year I think I speak for everyone in that we had hoped he’d hit the ground running and put away all doubts immediately. Well, missing the first month of the season is not what we wanted. In fact it’s quite the opposite. That being said, I’m not even close to panicking. The baseball season is so long and a guy missing the first month won’t really change much. It also really helps that the Yanks start off with a Charmin toilet paper soft schedule: six against Baltimore and three against Detroit. Aside from two against Boston and three in Houston, the Yankees should have little trouble in April, regardless who they trot out on the mound as a replacement for their sidelined arms.

So who is going to take over? As terrifying as it sounds, it looks like Luis Cessa is going to have one of the spots. His spring has been extremely impressive, there’s no way around it. Walks have troubled him his whole career, but so far it looks like he’s fixed his control in a big way.

From everyone we talked to down in Tampa it sounds like they know the potential Cessa brings to the table and they have full confidence he can turn this around. When I say he is beloved in the clubhouse, I mean BELOVED. I’m writing this all with extreme caution because we all know the bad Luis Cessa. Right now, without a sure fire option in AAA, Cessa appears to be the guy. Ideally this would be Mike King’s job, but he’s still getting back to full strength from his minor elbow flare up.

CC Sabathia’s prognosis looks much brighter. Boone is tinkering with the idea of beginning the year on the 25 man roster and having him serve his 5 game suspension right away, which he has from throwing at the Rays in his final start of the regular season last year. If that’s in the cards then you should expect him to miss just one turn in the rotation. That’d mean someone like Domingo German or Johnny Lasagna would only have to make one start.

It’s not the greatest news in the world with Sevy, but for now I’m calm with him missing a month, as long as it stays that way. I do, however, put full blame on Sevy having to miss this time on that bumbling idiot Bob Nightengale. What a fucking buffoon.

No one has ever been worse at their job than Bobby Lightning. Fuck that guy.
