Jon Jones* Retains His Championship In An Absolute Snoozefest Of A Main Event

Jon Jones just retained his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in an all time snoozefest of a fight, where he dominated completely, but failed to finish the +900 underdog in Anthony “Lionheart” Smith that he was supposed to walk right through.

Towards the end of the fight, Jones landed a highly illegal knee (shocking!) similar to the one Greg Hardy was disqualified for in his UFC debut back in January, and could’ve been disqualified himself had Smith not been able to continue, but he opted to continue, and “Bones” just received a double-point deduction for the foul.

That’s about it, I guess. From an entertainment standpoint, this was far and away the worst fight of Jon Jones’ career. Even in that shitty Ovince Saint-Preux comeback fight a few years back we had a few moments of unknown, and OSP even had a single shining spot himself, but the story of this one was Anthony Smith being outclassed completely, not throwing a thing, and Jones slowly grinding out a victory while never really making much of an effort for a finish.

Pretty lame ending to a phenomenal night of fights, but hey – at least a Jon Jones headlined card went off without a hitch. As for Anthony Smith, he showcased a fuck ton of heart, and stayed in there for five full rounds, which NOBODY expected him to do, so all the respect to him.

Thank you all for following along tonight, I enjoyed covering UFC 235 greatly, and I’ll have more on the fallout and aftermath of the event in the coming hours/days.

Goodnight!

(unless something happens at the post-fight presser worth blogging!)
