Playing with the Milwaukee Bucks, Dell Curry hits the 1,000th three-point shot in his career. Curry who was in his only season with Milwaukee spent a bulk of his 16-year career with the Charlotte Hornets. Curry would end the game with 13 points, making three-of-four shots from downtown as the Bucks beat the Golden State Warriors 106-78 at the Bradley Center. Curry would finish his career with 1,245 three-pointers made.
Wardell Stephen Curry was born on June 25, 1964, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. A two-sport star at Fort Defiance High School in Virginia, Curry played basketball at Virginia Tech and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 1982 MLB Draft. A four-year starter with the Hokies, Curry was taken with #15 overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft. Dell Curry struggled to find minutes in Utah and was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers before his second season. Despite averaging 10 points per game, Curry was unprotected in the expansion draft by Cavaliers. There he was the second player chosen and the first by the Charlotte Hornets.
Playing with an expansion team had its ups and downs for Stephen Curry, who became a quick fan favorite as “The Original Charlotte Hornet”. With the Hornets, Curry became one of the top players on the bench in the NBA averaging double-digits in each of his first nine seasons in Charlotte. Among the best part of Dell Curry’s game was the ability to hit shots from beyond the three-point line. For several seasons he was considered one of the best sixth-men, before finally winning the Sixth Man Award in 1994 with a career-best 16.3 ppg.
Dell Curry left the Charlotte Hornets after a decade in 1998, as he was among several players unsigned through the lockout, finally latching on with the Milwaukee Bucks before the season began. Curry would play the final three seasons of his career with the Toronto Raptors, retiring after the 2001/02 season. He would finish his 16-year career with a total 1,245 career three-point shots made.
Currently, Dell Curry is 56th all-time in three-point shots made. That pales in comparison to Stephen Curry, who has shattered the single-season record playing with the same Warriors his dad made the milestone against. Stephen Curry needed just seven years to reach 1,000 three-pointers made and is currently third all-time, with Reggie Miller and Ray Allen in his sights. Barring injury, Stephen Curry could get the record within three or four years.
