Kevin Smith Announces That Production On 'Jay & Silent Reboot' Has Officially Begun!

At long last, the View Askewniverse lives! From the original ‘Clerks’ in ’94, to ‘Mallrats’, ‘Chasing Amy’, ‘Dogma’, ‘Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back’, and ‘Clerks II’, Kevin Smith’s cinematic universe was my Marvel Cinematic Universe before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so I couldn’t be more excited to see these characters return to the big screen after all this time. Even just seeing Jason Lee back in that Brodie Bruce attire gave me the chills!

I should note once again that while the title does mention a “Reboot”, there won’t be anyone but Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes in the role of NJ’s favorite drug dealers, as this film isn’t actually a reboot, it’s a sequel to 2001’s ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’.

In that now-classic, Jay and Silent Bob travel cross-country to Hollywood in attempt to halt the production of ‘Bluntman and Chronic’, a superhero blockbuster flick using their likeness, and in this new one, Kevin Smith pokes fun at the current climate of cinema by having Jay and Silent Bob return to stop the production of a ‘Bluntman and Chronic’ reboot. You follow that? It felt like a mouthful to type.

Seeing Smith’s tribute to Stan Lee also choked me up a bit, as it was as beautiful as beautiful could get…

In Brodie’s Secret Stash, there hangs a @therealstanlee game-worn sweater. In the movie, this is because Brodie still marks the day he met Stan as the defining moment of his life. In real life, the shrine exists because Stan had a big role in every draft of @jayandsilentbob Reboot. For the 23 years I knew him, Stan would always ask me “When are we making another movie?” And here we are making a movie he was *very* central to – and sadly, we’re now having to do it without our sensational, smiling seraph. But for a few hours yesterday, it was 1995 anew – because Stan was at the Mall with us again.

Hopefully we see footage as soon as possible, because I’m ALREADY itchin’ for a trailer and they’ve only been shooting for two days!

Bonus Fun Fact: Kevin Smith’s announcement of this flick was the first non-MMA topic I ever blogged for Barstool, just over two years ago! Times friggin’ flies, man!

UPDATE: ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE, I GUESS! Right after I published this blog, Kevin Smith shared some behind-the-scenes footage with the world on his YouTube channel!

Snoogans!
