13 Years Ago Today Alexander Ovechkin Scored One Of The Craziest Goals In NHL History
January 16th, 2006. 13 years ago today Alexander Ovechkin scored one of the craziest goals in NHL history. Probably the best goal I can remember in my life time. I remember it like it was yesterday too. I was in 7th grade and a few days after the goal happened we were learning about storyboarding and I tried to storyboard this goal. It was probably the worst piece of art in Marshall Simonds Middle School history. But nonetheless, as a 13-year-old kid who loved hockey, I was enamored with the goal.
It was unbelievable. For weeks kids were trying to pull it off in practice. I’m pretty sure I went out an bought a CCM stick after this because I thought it would make me score goals like this (it didn’t).
I don’t want to say this goal put Ovi on the map, because it didn’t. But this goal was a reminder that we has hockey fans have something special in this young, high flying Russian kid and we should appreciate it. Over 1000 games and 600+ goals later I think we were right.
