The Disaster Known As The Pac-12 Continues As USC Suspends Top-10 Pick Kevin Porter Indefinitely
[ESPN] - After the game, USC coach Andy Enfield said the length of Porter’s suspension is indefinite.
“He was suspended for conduct issues,” Enfield said, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times. “We’ll reevaluate his future with the program this week.”
So the disaster known as the Pac-12 is just continuing to get worse. Sure, you can point at Arizona State falling apart in conference play again. You can point at Oregon’s collapse vs UCLA. You can point at Oregon State being a contender to win the conference. There are a lot of things.
But, now it’s USC suspending its most talented player indefinitely. Porter missed time due to injury already this year and is now dealing with this. He was a 5-star out of high school and is projected to go in the top-10 of the upcoming NBA Draft. Porter is a 6’6″ wing who can go get his own bucket and should improve defensively at the next level. He’s an intriguing prospect for that reason.
However, USC has been such a mess this year – again. Last year they were ruined by the FBI investigation losing De’Anthony Melton for the season. This year it was injuries, Jordan Usher transferring and now this. Andy Enfield seemed to get USC going in the right direction with top recruiting classes and making the NCAA Tournament two years in a row.
This year USC is 9-8 without a top-100 win. They lost to Santa Clara. They are 2-2 in conference play. They are ranked 101 on KenPom. It’s an absolute disaster. We’ll see what happens with Porter the rest of the year. Regardless he’s going to go to the NBA Draft after the season and be a projected top-10 pick barring something crazy.
