There Seems To Be A Lot Of Ignorant Bitching Online Today

Last night was unreal.

Look, I’m not going to rub it in everybody’s faces that A&M beat #7 LSU in epic, historical fashion. That would be disingenuous. Hand up, I didn’t think A&M would win this game. That’s what we call “Battered Aggie Syndrome.” I thought it was over when Coach O got his Gatorade bath.

But guess what, it wasn’t over. A&M did win. In SEVEN OVERTIMES. In the highest scoring game in FBS history. And it was fucking awesome.

No, there wasn’t a conference title or CFP bid on the line. There really wasn’t anything on the line for A&M other than the fact the Aggies had never beaten the Tigers since joining the SEC. And despite being #7 in the country, there was 0.0% chance that LSU creeped into the playoff. But I still think it can go down as one of the best college games of all time. Easily.

And even though it was a wildly entertaining game for all who watched, there seems to be a lot of bitching and moaning about the refs from the anti-A&M crowd this morning. Were some calls in favor of A&M? Yes. Absolutely. They caught some breaks. Credit to me for admitting that. But it feels as though people are forgetting that a win is a win.

Has there ever been a time in the history of sports that complaining about refs on Twitter has changed jack shit? No. Has there ever been a time in the history of sports that both fan bases walked away from a game and said “damn, they really did a good job”?  No. Has there ever been somebody who changed your mind about your team winning because they thought the refs stunk and wouldn’t stop talking about?

FYI: As sports fans, we’ve ALL been screwed sideways by refs in the past.

HOWEVER. There are people blaming the refs for a major turning point last night that was not, in fact, their fault. With 15 seconds left in regulation, A&M converted on 4th-and-18. From their own 39, Kellen Mond threw a 20 yard pass to Quartney Davis. I’m not great at math, but 20 yards is more than 18 yards. And that means it was a first down.

Yet, I have people still tweeting at me today acting like it was a horrendously bad spot by the refs. WELL FOLKS IN CASE YOU MISSED IT, this simple math means that the broadcast line was TWO ENTIRE YARDS off the official marker.

Now to be fair, Dave said he didn’t know that ESPN had it wrong when he tweeted this last night (to which I responded: of course, they got something wrong). So, he gets a pass. But all you ignorant assholes that are still out there bitching this morning (even with blatant math in your face) about it being a bad spot need to read something.

May I suggest, The Advocate?

For those at home, LSU is in Baton Rouge. So if they can admit it was on ESPN, anybody can.

Not convinced? How about someone who actually works for ESPN… AND is an LSU fan?

Numbers, math, facts. Find a new slant, people.

Actually now that I think about it, ESPN should come out and apologize for this outrageous mistake. They’ve apologized for much less. These refs are being unfairly shamed for giving us an incredible game that will go down in history and I won’t stand for it. Not on my watch.

Do some research for me one time, Bill.

As we all prepare for a day in the NFL that will 1000% not live up to last week’s Monday Night Football game, let’s all just sit back and appreciate that epic college football game last night. It was awesome. AKA – please, stop bitching about the refs on social media. IT DOESN’T CHANGE ANYTHING AND YOU JUST SOUND LIKE A WHINER.
