Frankie Fins Fan Week 9 Recap Sweeping the Paper Airplanes

A win is a win and that is all that matters. An ugly win is better than a beautiful loss as style points only matter in the NCAA polls. That is the headline in the Miami Dolphins 13-6 win over the New York Jets in Week 9. The game was horrendous, it was bad and only tortured fans of the Dolphins and Jets could actually sit there and try to watch that dumpster fire of a game. With the win, the Dolphins improve to 5-4 on the season and complete a season sweep of the Paper Airplanes.

Brock Osweiler got his fourth straight start as Ryan Tannehill remains inactive with a shoulder injury. The results were not good, as he passed for just 139 yards while completing 15 of 24 passes. The loss of Albert Wilson has seemed to severely tie his hands as the Dolphins offense severely lacked creativity. Kenny Stills managed to make a go of it after missing the last game with a tender groin but made just one catch for 19 yards. The Dolphins tried to feed Frank Gore most of the day, as the old man from the U, rushed for 54 yards on 20 carries, moving into sixth place in all-time yards from scrimmage.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Dolphins used their defense to set up the first score of the game, as Kiko Alonso intercepted Sam Darnold and returned the ball to the 42, with Miami getting 15 extra yards due to a late hit out of bounds by Brandon Shell. The Dolphins would end the drive with a 43-yard field goal by Jason Sanders. Sanders added another field goal late in the second quarter as Miami’s only sustained drive saw them go 51 yards in 14 plays with a 28-yard field goal making it 6-0. The Jets would get some points back as they quickly got down the field for a 48-yard field goal by Jason Myers at the end of the half.

The game remained 6-3 through the third quarter as both offenses tried to out stench each other, trading punts back and forth. The Jets offense was severely hampered by the misadventures of center Spencer Long who had several terrible snaps to Darnold. The Jets had a chance to tie the game as the fourth quarter began, but Myers badly missed a 50-yard attempt. After the Dolphins had another three and out, they got an excellent punt from Matt Hack pinning New York at their own 15. On the second snap on second and nine, the Jets had their most costly mistake of the day as Sam Darnold hurried by another poor snap threw a pick-six to Jerome Baker who made it 13-3 after a 25-yard run back.

The Jets managed to stay in the fight as Jason Myers made it 13-6 with a 56-yard field goal, as Miami was doing three and out squat drives. However, the Dolphins defense saved the day as they ended the Jets last two drives with interceptions, one by T.J. McDonald and one by Walt Aikens to seal the 13-6 victory as Akeem Spence and Cameron Wake earn the Frankie Fins Game Ball with two sacks apiece.
