NBC News- An American Airlines employee fell asleep in a cargo hold of a Boeing 737 in Kansas City, Missouri, and when he emerged about an hour later, he was in Chicago, the airline said Wednesday. The employee — who wasn’t identified but who the airline said works for its Piedmont Airlines subsidiary — was intoxicated, said a source with direct knowledge of the incident, speaking on condition of anonymity. American said that the man “inadvertently” fell asleep in the forward cargo hold on Saturday morning and was still inside when the jet took off. The cargo hold was heated and pressurized, and the man wasn’t injured, the airline said.

“Our top priority is ensuring the well-being of the Piedmont employee,” the airline said. “He did not request any medical attention upon arrival in Chicago, and we are grateful that he did not sustain any injuries.”

Hey, it happens. People falling asleep at work happens every single day. It has happened to all of us. If you say you haven’t fallen asleep at work then you’re either a liar or a nerd who works hard all the time. But it has happened to the vast majority of people. One minute you’re sitting back in your chair resting your eyes and the next second you’re being jolted awake when your head snaps forward. I actually feel bad for this guy. Like I said this type of thing happens every day across the whole world but doesn’t make headlines. It only makes headlines in this instance because the dude just so happens to be in a line of work where, if you happen to fall asleep on the job, you get launched across the country in a steel skyscraper. This dude decided to take a break, rest his eyes and woke up in an entirely different city. Whoops.

I’m jealous of this guy to be honest. I can’t sleep on planes to save my life. I’ve tried everything. Head up against the window, neck pillows, real pillows, alcohol, everything. I guess I haven’t tried sleeping pills or Xanax but that’s because I’m super duper afraid of pills. Nothing works and I just sit there like an idiot while people sleep all around me. That airline worker wasn’t even trying to fall asleep and he did it. Very jealous of that.
