Biggest Asshole Today: Florida Prep Basketball Coach Mike Woodbury Caught On Audio Threatening A Player For Wanting To Transfer

You want to hear a goddamn lunatic? Listen to this video. This is the problem in basketball. I don’t want to hear people bitching about player’s getting money or benefits or any of that. Here you have a coach at a prep school in Florida blackmailing a player who says he wants to transfer.

Outside of guys like Dave Bliss, this is some of the worst audio I’ve heard from a coach in regards to a player. I mean just listen to it. Listen, I get the locker room talk and cussing. That’s not a problem. But when a kid comes to you and says he wants to transfer and you immediately start to threaten him with blackmail/extortion you deserve everyone coming at you and quite frankly never around a court again.

Update: Jeff Goodman at Stadium spoke to these guys. If you didn’t hate Woodbury yet, how about this quote:

Woodbury told Stadium that the conversation lasted about 20 minutes. This was three minutes of it.

“No. F—, no,” Woodbury said when asked by Stadium if he had any regrets about the interaction. “Yes and no. I regret the fact I tried to be a father figure. It hurts my heart.”

Oh, on top of that? Other players have come out and said there was verbal abuse by Woodbury and when Marvens Petion (the player in the audio) transferred to his new school, he alleged that Woodbury changed his transcripts to a 1.4. Petion is from Haiti and had two other prep schools in Kansas close while he was there.

Oh, don’t worry we finally got a response from Woodbury, who is also the CEO of this prep school:

Yeah, I don’t know about you, but I never fight with my family by threatening to ruin their lives. What a gigantic asshole.

I’ll be leading the charge for this asshole to get fired and actually am cool with everyone saying the same shit to him. This is the real problem with basketball.
