Video Of The Venice Marathon Runners Being Forced To Jog Through Flooded Streets Looks Like A Good Time

First of all, I had no idea that anyone under the age of ninety lived in Venice. I thought it was filled with little old ladies who spent their days cooking pasta and overfeeding their grandchildren like the women from the Prince commercials.

Second, I knew that the city was sinking (approximately 2-3mm per year) but I had NO idea it was this bad. Apparently they’ve been experiencing horrific flooding as of late due to unusually high tides which exacerbates the problem, but still, what a nightmare.

Why they didn’t just cancel the race is beyond me. I mean look at these pictures.

They’re running through full blown tidal pools. With waves. I guess the good part is that if you have to go to the bathroom during your run no one will notice? I don’t know, just trying to find a silver lining. If you’re in a marathon in the states I don’t want to hear you bitch about your run ever again. Heartbreak Hill is nothing compared to the conditions these people have to deal with.
