Wednesday Afternoon NBA Time Waster: The Story Of Fred VanVleet
Alright folks, after what I’m sure was another long day for everyone given the World Series last night, it took a lot for you to get to this moment. The final push until freedom on a Wednesday is in my opinion the hardest part of the work week. Now as I’ve stated, I am a huge sucker for well done basketball documentary/shows that tell an inspirational story. I just find it really fascinating to learn about the behind the scenes stuff with guys who are scratching and clawing their way into the league. That’s why when I saw this short documentary about Fred VanVleet, I knew it was the perfect choice for today’s time waster.
If you’re a Raptors fan, you for sure already know the story of FVV. For those who don’t, it’s pretty interesting. Undrafted out of Wichita State, FVV is a player that has worked his way to be a main rotation player for the Raptors who are owners of the league’s best bench. He’s a huge part of that. He had a bit of a breakout year last year, averaging 8.6/2.4/3.9 on 42/41% splits in 20 minutes a night. He finally got his shot after only playing 37 games as a rookie, and it’s safe to say he took full advantage. That’s what makes this story so cool to me. He decided to bet on himself, something that has sort of become his mantra, and he was rewarded with a 2/18M extension earlier this summer.
Watch any Raptors game and you see the impact VanVleet makes with that second unit. He’s started the year off great with 11.5/3.0/5.3 averages in just under 25 minutes a night, and he has proven that he can not only hang in this league, but he can be a difference maker for the Raptors. Anyway, this is a cool inside look at how things all started for him, and it’s the perfect thing to kill the last 10ish minutes of your day before it’s officially quittin’ time. Enjoy
See you all tomorrow where we make the final push towards the end of the week.
