The Charlotte Hornets Are Thinking Outside Of The Box In Their Quest To Return To The Playoffs

2018-2019 Charlotte Hornets Media Day

We all know it’s not uncommon for an NBA player to find himself in a sticky situation when it comes to their personal lives. It can be hard when traveling to certain cities to make sure your side piece and your family never cross paths. The last thing these teams want is their player not being focused on the game and playing well because they are too worried about everything blowing up in his face once the game is over. Which is why it is great to see the Charlotte Hornets taking the initiative with this. What am I talking about? Well according to my co-worker Frank Kaminsky, the Hornets are making sure this never becomes an issue

I know the Hornets are looking to get back to the playoffs this season, and maybe after their exit interviews or something last year guys talked about how it was weighing on them mentally to have to worry about their girlfriend running into their wife. I mean sure, in reality this was probably them asking for EITHER their wife or girlfriend’s name, but let’s be honest that’s not why they included both options on this form. If that were the case they could have had everything on the same line. It is very clear that this is intended for both, I don’t care what the team says. They want to ensure that when they leave tickets for both, they are on opposite sides of the arena. That the wife gets the extra access passes or whatever, maybe the courtside seats, while the girlfriend sits somewhere else out of sight. I feel like there were some rumors about this back in the day with the Celts (you can Google it) so in my opinion this is a smart business decision by CHA.

It makes me wonder though if this is a common thing with all NBA teams, and if so who is filling out both lines. The obvious answer here is Tristan Thompson, but you know he’s not the only one. Some may clown the Hornets for the “mistake”, but I’m all for it. You have to do whatever you can in this league to get an edge, and seeing as how the East is wide open and the Hornets have already looked pretty good this preseason, I say it’s working.
